Kogi APC Stakeholders Raise Alarm Over Internal Rift, Defend Senator Karimi
By Adeola Badru
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State have expressed concern over growing internal disagreements within the party, following a recent press conference held in Kabba.
The Kogi Progressive Stakeholders Forum (KPSF), a coalition of APC stakeholders and support groups, made its position known in a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Sani Philips, where it also defended the performance of Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District.
The forum described recent criticisms against the lawmaker, including reports of a vote of no confidence, as baseless and urged party members and the public to treat such claims with caution.
The development comes after a press briefing reportedly organised by some APC executives in Kogi West, who cautioned the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) against backing Senator Karimi.
However, the KPSF dismissed the concerns raised at the briefing, calling on party leaders to disregard them, insisting that the senator still enjoys widespread support among his constituents.
According to the group, Senator Karimi has executed several constituency projects and legislative initiatives that have positively impacted the people of Kogi West.
The forum also decried the resort to media platforms for addressing internal party issues, warning that such actions could undermine party unity and cohesion.
It cautioned that unresolved internal disputes could negatively affect the party’s electoral fortunes in the state if not properly managed.
Distancing itself from the positions expressed at the Kabba press conference, the KPSF maintained that those views do not reflect the broader sentiments of APC members at the grassroots in Kogi West.
The group reaffirmed its support for Senator Karimi and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, while urging the party’s national leadership to prioritise unity and internal stability.
It also called on party members and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to the collective goal of sustaining political stability and electoral success in the state.
