PAAU Promotes Eight to Professors, Seventeen to Readers
The Governing Council of Prince Abubakar Audu University, PAAU, has approved the promotion of eight academic staff members to the rank of Professor and seventeen others to the position of Reader (Associate Professor), in a move aimed at strengthening academic excellence, research productivity, and institutional growth.
The approvals were reached during the institution’s 72nd Regular Governing Council Meeting held on May 22, 2026, at the University Council Chamber under the chairmanship of Professor Mohammed Suleiman Audu.
According to a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, the promotions followed recommendations submitted by the Appointments and Promotion Committee (A&PC).
The newly elevated Professors are Dr. Okpe Ameh Alfa of Animal Production, Dr. Onimisi Meriyamoh Mero of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Dr. Okpanachi Martin Abdubala of Animal and Environmental Biology, Dr. Friday John Sale of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, Dr. Saad Murtala of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Dr. Okpanachi Anthony of Philosophy, Dr. Sani Idris Ahmed of Economics, and Dr. Hassan Achimugu of Public Administration.
The Council also approved the promotion of seventeen scholars to the rank of Reader. They include Dr. Attaugwu Roseline Nwabogo (Food, Nutrition and Home Science), Dr. Amana Gabriel Unekwu (Animal and Environmental Biology), Dr. Ameh E. Mark and Dr. Larayetan Rotimi Abisoye (Pure and Industrial Chemistry), Dr. Afere Benson Eniola (Mathematical Sciences), Dr. Abraham Oyguh Joseph (Microbiology), and Dr. Yusuf Shrifudeen (Arabic and Islamic Studies).
Others are Dr. Obera Joy Aladi (Arts Education – English Language), Dr. Muraina Kamilu Olanrewaju (Educational Foundations), Dr. Emmanuel Friday Titus (Medicinal Chemistry), Dr. (Mrs.) Agbana Olubunmi Funmilayo (Mass Communication), Dr. Aliu Monday and Dr. Usman Muhammed (Political Science), Dr. Okeme Ukwumonu Patrick (Public Administration), Dr. Shaibu Joshua Shaka (Social Science Education), Dr. Atoyebi Timothy Abayomi (Sociology), and Dr. Ugwu James Ike (Accounting).
The Governing Council described the promotions as a reflection of the University’s dedication to rewarding academic diligence, encouraging impactful research, and maintaining high standards in teaching and scholarship.
The Council further reaffirmed its commitment to policies that promote staff development, institutional stability, academic visibility, and global competitiveness.
Speaking during the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, congratulated the promoted academics and praised their contributions to teaching, research, and community service.
He urged the beneficiaries to sustain excellence in scholarship, mentor younger academics, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the University and the wider academic community.
Professor Usman also reiterated the Management’s resolve to provide a conducive environment for academic growth, professional advancement, and institutional transformation.
