The national collation of results from the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries in Abuja on Sunday, May 24, marked a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a strong reaffirmation of party unity, internal democracy, and nationwide political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

When Returning Officer and former Senate President, Chief Pius Anyim, announced the final results, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged with a commanding 10,999,162 votes to secure the APC presidential ticket, defeating his challenger, Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,503 votes in a nationwide direct primary. Out of 12,643,306 registered party members, 11,069,756 were accredited, while 11,015,665 votes were cast across the federation.

These figures demonstrate the APC’s extensive national reach, organisational depth, and capacity for large-scale political mobilisation across all states of the federation. The outcome of the primaries further reinforces the party’s structured base and the confidence placed in President Tinubu’s leadership and reform-driven agenda.

In every functioning democracy, political parties remain the primary engines of participation and leadership recruitment. The APC’s nationwide direct primaries therefore provided a strong demonstration of participatory democracy at scale, enabling millions of party members across wards, local governments, and states to actively contribute to the emergence of the party’s presidential candidate.

The overwhelming endorsement of President Tinubu reflects a clear consensus within the party on continuity, stability, and the consolidation of ongoing economic and institutional reforms designed to reposition Nigeria for long-term prosperity. It also underscores confidence in a leadership style anchored on decisive reform, national integration, and economic renewal.

In Delta State, the exercise recorded 407,646 votes across 25 local government areas, reflecting strong grassroots mobilisation and a coordinated party structure.

As state coordinator and returning officer, Governor Oborevwori supervised a process defined by orderliness and effective stakeholder engagement. His handling of the exercise reinforced confidence in the capacity of the state leadership to sustain internal stability and manage political structures with discipline.

In his acceptance speech following the Abuja collation, President Tinubu described the moment as a continuation of a shared national journey.

“Today, our task is to affirm that continuity is essential to consolidate reform, secure progress, and strengthen the foundation of a modern Nigeria,” he stated.

This vision captures the APC’s forward-looking posture as it consolidates its position as Nigeria’s leading political movement, committed to reform, national cohesion, and sustainable development.

The President highlighted key achievements of the administration, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which has disbursed over N282 billion to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries, expanding access to higher education for Nigerian youths. He also referenced significant strides in the power sector, including improved generation capacity, expansion of metering infrastructure, and ongoing reforms designed to make the sector more efficient, transparent, and investor-friendly.

Across infrastructure, the administration continues to drive major investments in roads, rail, ports, housing, and digital connectivity, aimed at strengthening economic competitiveness and unlocking inclusive growth. Reforms in the oil and gas sector have also contributed to renewed investor confidence and increased capital inflows into the economy.

These policy milestones reaffirm the APC’s commitment to reform-driven governance, measurable results, and national development. It is safe to assert that the Tinubu administration is well positioned to upscale the delivery of the dividends of democracy beyond 2027.

The successful conduct of the direct primaries with over 11 million accredited voters clearly underscores the APC’s expansive grassroots mobilisation and organisational depth ahead of 2027. It also reflects a growing alignment of party structures across the federation in support of continuity and sustained reform implementation.

President Tinubu also used his acceptance speech to emphasize unity, inclusion, and national purpose, calling on party members and Nigerians alike to remain focused on building a stronger and more prosperous nation.

“We will build a Nigeria where every life is secure, where enterprise thrives, where workers earn with dignity, and where every Nigerian, regardless of background, can dream big and succeed,” he declared.

This message reinforces the APC’s ideological commitment to inclusive growth, social stability, and national cohesion, anchored on a united Nigeria where diversity is harnessed as a strength for development.

As Nigeria advances toward the 2027 general elections, the APC is unarguably the dominant political force with deep national reach, strong institutional structures, and widespread grassroots support. The successful conduct of the presidential primaries and the overwhelming endorsement of President Tinubu further consolidate the party’s strategic advantage going into the next electoral cycle.

With a well-established national presence, tested leadership, and ongoing reform achievements, the APC remains strongly positioned to secure a decisive victory in 2027. The growing alignment of party structures across the federation reinforces the expectation of continuity in governance and the deepening of ongoing reforms.

Ultimately, the APC primaries and President Tinubu’s overwhelming mandate represent more than an internal party exercise. They reflect a strengthened political structure, broad-based confidence in leadership, and a shared commitment to national progress.

As Nigeria moves steadily toward 2027, the APC remains firmly rooted as the nation’s leading political force, anchored on unity, reform continuity, and a forward-looking vision of prosperity for all Nigerians.
