Senator Echocho Out? Kogi APC Ward officials Suspends Lawmaker over Anti‑Party Conduct

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2, Dekina Local Government Area, has suspended Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho over alleged anti‑party activities, a decision that has intensified political tensions in the Kogi East Senatorial District.

Ward stakeholders said the suspension reportedly endorsed at a stakeholders’ meeting attended by party executives and loyalists, was taken to preserve party unity, discipline and electoral strength ahead of upcoming elections.

Party officials said the move followed a series of complaints and internal consultations about the senator’s conduct, which they allege undermined party supremacy and threatened local cohesion.

A statement from ward leaders accused Senator Echocho of actions capable of creating divisions and weakening the APC’s collective political objectives in Kogi East.

“We cannot fold our arms while certain individuals engage in acts capable of destabilizing the party. Discipline and loyalty remain key pillars of the APC, and no member is above the party,” one stakeholder said during the meeting.

Ward executives insisted the suspension was not a witch‑hunt but a necessary step to safeguard the party’s integrity at the grassroots. They urged all members to adhere to the APC constitution and the decisions of recognized party organs.

Political observers warn the move could deepen existing rifts within the APC in Kogi East amid ongoing realignments and internal power struggles.

Supporters of Senator Echocho have dismissed the suspension as politically motivated, insisting he remains a loyal party member who has contributed to local development.

Senator Echocho had not responded to the suspension at the time of filing, and efforts to reach his media aides were unsuccessful. Neither the APC’s local government nor state leadership has issued an official statement. Party members and analysts say they will continue to monitor the situation closely.
