The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has demonstrated a rare show of unity ahead of the 2027 general election, as former governorship aspirants, party executives, lawmakers, members of the State Executive Council, and Local Government Chairmen publicly endorsed the candidacy of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
The endorsement came on Monday during a world press conference and acceptance speech held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs along Shendam Road in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
The event was convened by aspirants who participated in the APC governorship primary election held on May 21, 2026, which produced Senator Wadada as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election.
Among the prominent aspirants present were Barrister Hassan Liman (SAN), Rt. Hon. Ahmed Mohammed Musa, Arch. Shehu Tukur, Hon. Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, Dr. El-Kabir Yakubu, and Dr. Faisal Shuaib, while others were represented by delegates.
Also in attendance were elected members and candidates of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, including Hon. Daniel Ogazi, who represents Keffi/Kokona/Karu Federal Constituency, and Hon. Dr. Hajara Danyaro, the only female member of the State Assembly.
The legislative delegation was led by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau.
The gathering further attracted Local Government Chairmen under the leadership of the ALGON Chairman, Hon. Safiyanu Andaha, members of the State Executive Council, and the APC State Executive Committee led by the State Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Wadada, who currently represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, expressed profound gratitude to party members for entrusting him with the mandate to fly the APC flag in the forthcoming governorship election.
He described his emergence as a collective victory for the party and the people of Nasarawa State.
“This victory is not mine alone. It belongs to every APC member who participated in the democratic process and to every citizen of Nasarawa State who believes in a prosperous, peaceful, united, and progressive state,” he said.
The APC candidate commended the leadership of the party for conducting what he described as a peaceful, transparent, credible, and successful primary election, noting that the exercise reflected the strength of the party’s internal democracy.
“I sincerely commend the leadership of our great party, the APC, for conducting a peaceful, transparent, credible, and successful governorship primary election.
The process demonstrated the strength of our party’s internal democracy and reaffirmed the confidence of our members in the APC as the vehicle for sustainable development and good governance,” he stated.
Senator Wadada particularly appreciated the APC State Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello, members of the State Working Committee, electoral officials, and other stakeholders whose efforts ensured a free and fair contest.
He also paid glowing tribute to Governor Abdullahi Sule, describing the governor’s leadership, political maturity, and commitment to party unity as exemplary.
According to him, Governor Sule demonstrated statesmanship, courage, and sincerity throughout the primary process while laying a solid foundation for the state’s growth through investments in infrastructure, industrialisation, agriculture, healthcare, education, security, and economic development.
The APC governorship candidate further extended appreciation to his fellow contestants, particularly Barrister Hassan Liman (SAN) and Dr. Fatima Abdullahi, who remained in the race until the end and accepted the outcome of the primary election in good faith.
He also acknowledged other aspirants who voluntarily stepped down in the interest of party unity and the collective progress of Nasarawa State.
Calling for greater cohesion within the ruling party, Senator Wadada extended a hand of fellowship to all stakeholders and urged members to remain united ahead of the 2027 general election.
“I appeal to anyone who may feel disappointed or who is contemplating leaving our great party to reconsider.
The APC remains a large and accommodating family, strong enough to embrace our diverse aspirations and opinions. Let us not create division where unity is needed. Let us not weaken what we have collectively built over the years,” he appealed.
The event concluded with a unanimous declaration of support for Senator Wadada’s candidacy by party leaders, aspirants, elected officials, and stakeholders, signalling a united front as the APC prepares for the 2027 governorship contest in Nasarawa State.
