Keffi Gunmen Invasion: Council Chairman, Police Dismiss Rumours, Call for Calm as Investigation Continues

Facts have emerged to counter widespread rumours following reports of an armed invasion on Monday night in Angwan Jaba, a community located a few metres from Government College, Keffi.
Contrary to public speculation, the Chairman of Keffi Local Government Area, Dr. Mohammed Damagani, and the Nasarawa State Police Command have dismissed claims of multiple deaths and injuries arising from the incident.
Rumours that circulated on Monday alleged that unknown gunmen invaded the community at night, shooting sporadically at residents.
The reports further claimed that several people were injured, others killed, and two persons kidnapped.
In separate statements, Dr. Damagani and the police urged residents to remain calm and disregard unverified reports capable of causing panic.
Confirming the incident, Dr. Damagani said the attack occurred late Monday night.
“I swiftly alerted the Army and the police, who immediately moved into the community. However, by the time they arrived, the kidnappers had already fled,” he said.
He disclosed that security operatives have since been working tirelessly to trace and rescue the victim.
“As I speak, security agents have established contact with the kidnappers, who are demanding ransom. When operatives moved to the location provided by the abductors, they discovered that the suspects had already relocated,” he added.
The chairman stressed that there were no reports of injuries or fatalities during the incident.
“As Chief Security Officer of the local government, we are not folding our arms. We are working in synergy with security agencies and community leaders to ensure the safe rescue of the victim,” he stated.
Dr. Damagani further assured residents of Keffi of their safety, pledging continued collaboration with security agencies to safeguard lives and property across the area.
Corroborating the chairman’s account, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, said investigations into the incident are ongoing. He also debunked rumours of deaths and injuries linked to the Angwan Jaba attack.
“Nobody was injured, let alone killed. The kidnappers entered a house and abducted one woman in Angwan Jaba, Keffi. They gained access through a window,” SP Nansel confirmed.
Both the local government chairman and the police called on residents to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of creating fear and confusion among the public.
