Gbagyi Youths Condemn Killing in Toto, Demand Justice Over Alleged Herdsmen Attack
By Yahaya Idris, Nasarawa
Reports reaching Global Times Nigeria indicate that members of the Gbagyi community in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have come under renewed violent attacks, allegedly carried out by suspected herdsmen.
The Concerned Gbagyi Youth Forum has strongly condemned the killing of Mr. Lazarus Adamu and the attack on Mr. Solomon Musa in Dikko Community, describing the incident as barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable.
In a statement issued and signed by its President, Joshua Yakubu Iko, the forum said it received with deep shock and outrage the news of the brutal killing of Adamu and the grievous injuries inflicted on Musa following what it described as an unprovoked attack allegedly carried out by Fulani herders on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
The group said the attack has thrown the deceased’s family and the entire community into mourning, fear, and anguish.
According to the forum, the killing of Lazarus Adamu and the attack on Solomon Musa are not isolated incidents but part of a disturbing pattern of violence threatening the peace, security, and continued existence of the Gbagyi people in their ancestral land.
The youth group called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies to immediately launch a comprehensive investigation, apprehend the perpetrators, and ensure they are brought to justice.
It stressed that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.
The forum further urged the Nasarawa State Government, the Chairman of Toto Local Government Area, and the Federal Government to treat the incident with the urgency it deserves, insisting that the lives of Gbagyi people must not be treated as expendable.
It also demanded increased security deployment to Dikko and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks and possible reprisals.
The group appealed for urgent medical support for Solomon Musa and compensation for the family of the late Lazarus Adamu, noting that such intervention would demonstrate the government’s commitment to protecting the lives and welfare of its citizens.
On the recurring farmer-herder crisis in Toto LGA, the forum called for sincere and decisive dialogue aimed at finding a lasting solution to the conflict.
It warned that peace cannot thrive where impunity persists, adding that perpetrators of violence must face the full weight of the law while preventive measures are strengthened.
The forum maintained that the Gbagyi people remain peaceful and law-abiding but cautioned that their patience should not be mistaken for weakness.
It warned that failure by relevant authorities to act decisively could embolden criminal elements and push communities toward self-help, a situation it said must be avoided.
The group extended heartfelt condolences to the family of Lazarus Adamu and prayed for the speedy recovery of Solomon Musa, insisting that justice must prevail.
“Enough is enough,” the statement declared.
