LABARAN MAKU’S CHANNELS TV OUTBURST: Desperate Cries of a Perennial Loser and Relic of Misinformation

The recent interview granted by former Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, on “Channels Television” was not only disappointing but deeply demeaning. In the interview, Mr. Maku, true to his well-established reputation for peddling falsehoods, made baseless allegations against the person and administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule, as well as the recently concluded Nasarawa North Senatorial bye-election.

It is both ironic and laughable that a man whose tenure as Minister of Information remains a troubling chapter in Nigeria’s public communication history would attempt to lecture a transparent and performing governor on integrity. Mr. Maku’s latest outburst appears to be nothing more than the desperate cry of a political force that has lost relevance and touch with the realities in Nasarawa State.

Before Mr. Maku points fingers at a leader who has earned the trust and confidence of the people, he must first confront his own record. As Minister of Information, he spearheaded the controversial National Good Governance Tour, a multi-billion naira exercise widely criticized as a waste of public resources and viewed by many as a glorified political campaign for the then ruling party.

The public has also not forgotten how Mr. Maku repeatedly struggled to defend the government on international platforms such as “CNN” (https://reference-url-citation.invalid/3) and “Al Jazeera” (https://reference-url-citation.invalid/4), particularly during periods of grave national security concerns. His conflicting statements and initial skepticism surrounding the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirl kidnapping remain a painful reminder of that era. For a man once widely criticized as a “Minister of Misinformation” to now label Governor Sule a liar is the height of hypocrisy.

Contrary to Mr. Maku’s allegations, Governor Abdullahi Sule has redefined governance in Nasarawa State through industrialization, infrastructure development, and transparency. While some were busy touring completed projects for political optics, Governor Sule has remained focused on conceptualizing and executing transformative projects across the state’s three senatorial zones.

The governor’s integrity is evident in the confidence reposed in him by the people. His administration has maintained commendable fiscal discipline and has continued to position Nasarawa State as an attractive destination for investment and economic growth.

Mr. Maku’s claims of neglect in Nasarawa North are easily disproved by visible projects on ground. On June 1, 2026, the people of Nasarawa North witnessed a historic milestone with the commissioning of the Akwanga Twin Flyover and Underpass, a landmark project inaugurated on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This multi-billion naira infrastructure is more than a physical structure; it is a strategic economic corridor designed to ease traffic congestion, stimulate commerce, and enhance the urban outlook of the area.

Other notable projects in Nasarawa North include:

– The dualization of the Akwanga Township Road, commissioned alongside the flyover.

– The construction of the Rinze–Ngibi–Alwaza Road.

– The ongoing revitalization of the Farin Ruwa Falls power project and tourism site.

– The establishment of the Nasarawa State University Faculty of Engineering in Gudi.

– The establishment and expansion of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital and other critical public institutions.

Mr. Maku’s rejection of the Nasarawa North Senatorial bye-election result follows a familiar pattern of political denial. Having moved across multiple political platforms in search of relevance, he has once again faced rejection at the polls. The bye-election was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, reflecting the collective will of constituents who chose progress over propaganda.

Mr. Maku would do well to retire from divisive rhetoric and reflect on his political legacy rather than attempting to distract a government focused on delivering democratic dividends. Governor Abdullahi Sule remains committed to his vision of a prosperous and progressive Nasarawa State, and no amount of media grandstanding can derail that mission.

The Office of the Special Assistant on Community Engagement remains open to constructive criticism and meaningful dialogue. However, we will not remain silent while the hard-earned reputation of our governor and the leadership of the state is unfairly attacked by individuals who failed to deliver when entrusted with public office.

Governor Abdullahi Sule is not known for falsehood or empty promises. He is known for consistency, credibility, and the alignment of his words with his actions.
