IYC Poll: Female Aspirant Enakeme Ojineme Seeks to Make History

With less than 24 hours to the election of the 10th President of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, one of the aspirants, Comrade Enakeme Ojineme, has continued to attract attention as the only female candidate in the race.

Ojineme’s campaign has drawn interest among delegates and stakeholders, with supporters citing her leadership experience, advocacy work and public speaking skills as key strengths.

During the presidential debate, the female aspirant outlined her vision for the council, focusing on youth development, inclusive leadership and sustained advocacy for the interests of Ijaw youths. Her performance at the debate was commended by some delegates and stakeholders.

Her supporters also point to her background in student leadership, youth and women advocacy, as well as her involvement in civic engagement, as factors that distinguish her from other contenders.

According to members of her campaign team, Ojineme has served in various leadership capacities, including roles linked to ECOWAS and the African Union, and has participated in advocacy campaigns aimed at promoting social and developmental causes.

They also noted that she previously contested for a councillorship seat in the Federal Capital Territory and has held several leadership positions within and outside Nigeria.

As the tenure of the outgoing IYC President, Dr. Alaye Tari Theophilus, winds down, Ojineme is seeking delegates’ mandate to lead the organisation, promising what her supporters describe as bold and inclusive leadership.

The Ijaw Youth Council election is expected to produce the organisation’s 10th president, with delegates set to decide among the candidates contesting the position.
