Nasarawa Engineers Applaud Governor Sule’s Investment in Technical Education

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nasarawa State Branch, has commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for prioritising technical education and youth empowerment, describing his administration’s investment in engineering education as critical to the state’s technological and economic development.
The commendation was made on Wednesday during a student outreach programme organised by the society at the Faculty of Engineering, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Gudi Campus.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NSE in Nasarawa State, Engr. Simon Obagu, said the outreach was designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional engineering practice by exposing students to practical knowledge and industry expectations.
Obagu praised Governor Sule for creating opportunities for young people through education and skills development, saying the administration’s focus on technical education had helped empower youths and reduce unemployment.
He also acknowledged the governor’s continued support for the Nigerian Society of Engineers and other professional bodies in the state.
The NSE chairman, however, appealed to both the Federal and Nasarawa State Governments to strengthen engineering education by providing modern laboratories, well-equipped workshops, improved funding and stronger partnerships between universities and industry.
According to him, adequate investment in engineering education remains essential for producing graduates capable of addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure and technological challenges.
Delivering the keynote address, the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, represented by Engr. Zakari Ayitogo, said the future of engineering practice in Nigeria depends largely on the quality of education and mentorship available to students.
He urged aspiring engineers to complement academic excellence with integrity, discipline, innovation, teamwork, leadership and a commitment to continuous professional development.
Rabiu noted that engineering graduates must be equipped not only with technical competence but also with ethical values and problem-solving skills required in today’s competitive global economy.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Maikano Ari, commended the Nigerian Society of Engineers for exposing students to real-world professional experiences.
He described the outreach programme as a valuable initiative that would broaden students’ understanding of engineering practice beyond theoretical classroom instruction.
Similarly, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha, appreciated the society for partnering with the institution to enhance students’ professional development.
Kucha disclosed that the faculty currently offers programmes in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
He added that the Nasarawa State Government plans to further expand the faculty by introducing Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering and Petroleum Engineering before Governor Sule completes his tenure.
Stakeholders at the event agreed that stronger collaboration between government, academia and professional organisations remains vital to producing highly skilled engineers capable of driving Nigeria’s industrialisation and sustainable development.
