Delta Govt Condemns Violence in Effurun, Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and Security, Orders Arrest of Perpetrators
The Delta State Government has strongly condemned the violent incident that occurred in Effurun on Sunday, describing it as unfortunate, reprehensible and inconsistent with the peaceful atmosphere being promoted across the state by the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, expressed the government’s concern over videos of the incident circulating on social media, particularly the alleged brutal attack on Mr. Simon Mudi.
Aniagwu said Governor Oborevwori’s administration places the highest priority on protecting lives and property, stressing that peace, security and social harmony remain central to the implementation of the MORE Agenda.
According to him, the state government has continued to strengthen the security architecture across Delta State, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and stability.
He described the attack on Simon Mudi as completely unacceptable, emphasizing that the Oborevwori administration does not tolerate violence in any form, regardless of those involved.
“The reported acts of violence witnessed in Effurun, especially the brutal attack on Mr. Simon Mudi, are totally unacceptable and have no place in a civilized and law-abiding society.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has consistently made it clear that his administration does not condone violence in any form, irrespective of the persons or interests involved,” Aniagwu stated.
The Commissioner reaffirmed that every resident of Delta State deserves to live and carry out lawful activities in a peaceful, safe and secure environment.
He disclosed that the state government has directed security agencies to immediately identify, arrest and prosecute all individuals connected to the incident, assuring residents that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law without fear or favour.
Aniagwu appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from actions capable of escalating tensions. He urged all parties involved in the incident to embrace lawful and peaceful means of resolving disagreements.
The Commissioner further emphasized that the Oborevwori administration remains unwavering in its commitment to strengthening peace and security across Delta State while supporting security agencies to safeguard lives and property.

He also called on community leaders, youth groups, stakeholders and members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that would assist ongoing investigations.
Aniagwu reiterated that the Delta State Government will continue to uphold the rule of law, protect the rights of all citizens and promote dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence, stressing that violence, intimidation and criminality have no place in the Delta State envisioned by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
