Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, has challenged Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to focus on his campaign manifesto and explain what he intends to offer the people of Delta Central instead of accusing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of plotting against him.
Aniagwu made the call while reacting to allegations by Omo-Agege, the Delta Central senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), that the governor was allegedly planning to eliminate him.
The commissioner described the allegation as baseless and questioned the motive behind making such a claim at the beginning of a senatorial campaign.
‘Oborevwori Is Not Contesting Against You’
According to Aniagwu, there is a fundamental difference between the positions being sought by the two politicians.
He said Omo-Agege is seeking election to the Senate to represent Delta Central, while Oborevwori is seeking another term as governor.
“Oborevwori is not running for the Delta Central Senatorial election. He is running for the position of Governor of Delta State,” Aniagwu said.
The commissioner argued that because the two politicians would not be on the same ballot for the same office, there was no reason for Oborevwori to allegedly view Omo-Agege as a direct electoral threat.
Commissioner: Let Campaign Be About Issues
Aniagwu urged Omo-Agege to make the 2027 election about ideas, policies and development rather than allegations of political persecution.
He said candidates should use campaigns to tell voters what they intend to accomplish if elected.
“Let us advise our brother to stay with his campaign and stop looking for stories that do not add up,” he said.
The commissioner said the Oborevwori administration had continued to concentrate on development under the MORE Agenda.
According to him, the government had sufficient projects and achievements to discuss with Deltans instead of engaging opponents in unnecessary political exchanges.
2023 Election Remains in the Past
Aniagwu also referenced the 2023 governorship election, when Oborevwori and Omo-Agege contested against each other.
He said Oborevwori won the election fairly, based on his personality, credibility and acceptance among the electorate.
The commissioner maintained that the governor had since strengthened his political standing through his administration’s performance.
He therefore questioned why Oborevwori would allegedly abandon his responsibilities and focus on a politician contesting another office.
‘Our Stories Are Already Told in Our Villages’
Aniagwu said the achievements of the current administration could be found in communities across Delta State.
“Our stories are already told in our villages. Those stories are very clear, evident of what the governor promised and what we have delivered,” he said.
He expressed confidence that voters would ultimately make their decision based on what they could see and assess for themselves.
The commissioner also said Oborevwori’s administration would continue working towards creating a conducive environment for investment and ensuring the safety of residents.
