As Kogi State commemorates 35 years of its creation, the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, has called on political stakeholders to ensure fairness, unity and a level playing field ahead of future elections.
Gambo made the call during activities marking the Kogi@35 anniversary in Lokoja, where he said the milestone should provide an opportunity for the people to reflect on the state’s democratic journey and future.
According to the PDP chairman, the celebration should go beyond festivities and encourage stakeholders to examine how democratic institutions and electoral processes can be strengthened in the Confluence State.

He acknowledged that Kogi had recorded growth since its creation but stressed that development must be accompanied by inclusive and credible democratic processes.
“ We cannot talk about development if the process of choosing leaders is flawed. Fairness and justice must guide our elections,” he said.
Equal Opportunity for Parties
Gambo urged relevant institutions to guarantee equal opportunities for political parties and candidates during elections.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and traditional institutions to play neutral roles in ensuring credible elections.
The PDP chairman argued that a peaceful electoral environment would strengthen citizens’ confidence in democracy and create a more attractive environment for investors and development partners.
He also appealed to political actors to avoid actions capable of generating tension before, during and after elections.
Call for PDP Unity
The party chairman further urged PDP members across Kogi’s 21 Local Government Areas to remain united.
He encouraged members to focus their campaigns on policies and issues rather than personal attacks.
“Our strength is in our unity. Kogi@35 should remind us that we are one people with a common destiny, regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation,” Gambo said.
He congratulated Kogi residents on the 35th anniversary and expressed optimism that the state would continue to record progress.
The chairman also reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to working with citizens and other stakeholders towards building a state where, in his words, “every voice counts and every vote matters.”
