Insist on criminal action and disciplinary measures without delay

Yahaya Idris Toto has raised concerns over what he described as the growing stigma faced by residents of Umaisha following allegations concerning hospital materials allegedly donated to the General Hospital in the community.
Idris Toto, a media personality and resident of Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, said the controversy had subjected residents to ridicule while the public awaits the outcome of an investigation ordered by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
The controversy followed claims attributed to lawmaker Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad, who said he donated 50 orthopedic mattresses, more than 50 ceiling fans and 40 standing fans to the hospital.
The controversial lawmaker reportedly alleged that the items were subsequently stolen or sold.
Governor Sule was said to have responded by ordering an investigation into the matter, with a directive that those found responsible should be arrested, prosecuted and dismissed where appropriate.
But according to Yahaya Idris Toto, the continued silence over the committee’s report is causing further damage to the reputation of the affected community.
He appealed to the governor to make the findings public so that those responsible can be identified and those who are innocent can be cleared.
“Wherever we go, people now mock us, calling us thieves,” he said.
Toto said the allegations should not be allowed to permanently define Umaisha or its residents.
He also called for accountability on both sides, stressing that anyone found to have stolen or improperly disposed of the materials should face the law.
However, he said that if the investigation finds that the allegations were false, the person who made them should equally take responsibility.
He suggested an open apology to the hospital, Umaisha community, Toto Local Government, Hospital Management Board and the Nasarawa State Government if the allegations are eventually established to be unfounded.

He described the governor’s intervention as an opportunity to demonstrate that the state government would not tolerate either corruption or unjust accusations.
According to him, the most important thing at this stage is for the relevant authorities to establish the facts.
“I am sure there are many people like me, especially the affected people who couldn’t sleep, rather waiting for the committee report to either indict or clear them of wrongdoing,” he said.
The Media Personality stated that the opposition now use the allegations gains the governing party, calling on the Governor to wade in to clear innocent people or indict unscrupulous elements found guilty.
