The Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Betta Edu, has assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of sustained grassroots mobilisation by women across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Edu gave the assurance while expressing appreciation for the President’s commitment to sponsoring executive bills aimed at improving women’s representation in elective and appointive positions.
President Tinubu had pledged his support for the proposed measures, assuring Nigerian women that efforts would be made to increase their representation in the National Assembly and at the subnational level.

The President made the commitment during the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Addressing women leaders at the event, Tinubu highlighted their importance to political organisation and democratic development, describing them as vital participants in the country’s electoral process.
“You women are the greatest mobilisers and foot soldiers of our democracy,” he said.
He urged women leaders to intensify advocacy around the six proposed bills, expressing confidence that their efforts would contribute to the realisation of the initiative.
“Go and work for them, and I assure you that they will come to fruition,” the President added.
Speaking in an interview shortly after the address, Edu thanked Tinubu for his commitment to women’s representation, describing the proposed legislation as an important step towards expanding women’s participation in governance.
She reaffirmed her readiness to strengthen grassroots structures, engage women across communities and encourage wider participation in political activities.
Edu also acknowledged the role of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, under whose supervision she said she remained committed to advancing women’s mobilisation and participation in the political process.
The APC campaign council official assured the President that women would sustain their engagement across the country ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing optimism that his commitment to improving representation would further encourage their participation.
Her remarks come as political stakeholders continue to discuss the place of women in Nigeria’s democratic institutions and the need to expand opportunities for female participation in decision-making.
Beyond electoral mobilisation, the proposed bills have the potential to shape discussions about political inclusion, representation and women’s access to leadership positions, subject to their passage and implementation.
For the APC women mobilisation director, the immediate priority remains strengthening community-level engagement while supporting efforts to improve women’s participation in governance.
