“You fought your battle, and now you have taken your final bow. Though your presence will be missed, your memory will remain with us.”
The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of its member, Comrade Idris Ahmed Toto, popularly known as Nasarawa, a reporter with Daily Monitor, who died after a prolonged illness.
The Chairman of the Chapel, Segun Ademola Salami, in a condolence statement issued on behalf of the leadership and members, described the death of the journalist as a painful loss to the journalism profession, noting that his passing had left a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.

Salami described the late Toto as more than a colleague, saying he was a brother and an integral member of the professional family the Chapel had built over the years.
He noted that the deceased endured a prolonged and difficult battle with illness before his demise, adding that although death was inevitable, the loss of a fellow member remained deeply painful.
“This is not just the loss of a member; it is the loss of a brother, a colleague and a part of the family we have built together. His departure leaves a vacuum that words alone cannot fill,” the statement read.
The Chapel chairman extended the organisation’s condolences to the immediate family, friends and associates of the deceased, praying that Almighty Allah would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Paying tribute to the late journalist, Salami said his contributions and memories would remain indelible in the hearts of members, stressing that his physical absence would not diminish the impact he had made within the Chapel.
“Idris Ahmed Nasarawa, you fought your battle, and now you have taken your final bow. Though your presence will be missed, your memory will remain with us,” the statement added.
The Chapel also prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul, urging his family, friends and colleagues to find comfort in Almighty Allah during this difficult period.
Meanwhile, the remains of the late journalist are scheduled for interment today, Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in Gwagwalada, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a burial announcement issued by his son, Yahaya Idris, the family invited relatives, friends, associates and sympathisers wishing to pay their last respects to converge by 9:00 a.m. at either the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, or the Radio House Cemetery, Gwagwalada, for the interment.
