The Delta State Government has announced plans to take its ongoing Drug-Free Delta (DFD) Campaign to Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, and the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, on November 10 and 11, 2026, respectively, as part of efforts to tackle drug abuse and substance misuse among young people.
The two-day sensitisation programme is aimed at raising awareness about the dangers and consequences of illicit drug consumption, promoting responsible lifestyle choices and mobilising students and other stakeholders towards building a drug-free society.
The first phase of the campaign will hold on Tuesday, November 10, at the University Auditorium, Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, commencing at 10:00 a.m.
The exercise will move to the University of Delta, Agbor, on Wednesday, November 11, where the sensitisation programme will also take place at the University Auditorium, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Speaking ahead of the campaign, the Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq., said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to promoting a healthy, informed and productive youth population through sustained public enlightenment and advocacy.
Oghenesivbe explained that tertiary institutions provide strategic platforms for engaging young people on the dangers of drug abuse and its negative implications for academic performance, mental well-being, personal development and societal security.
He urged students, university management, academic and non-academic staff, as well as other relevant stakeholders, to participate actively in the campaign, emphasising that the fight against drug abuse requires collective responsibility, commitment and sustained public awareness.
The Director-General also called on members of the campaign team and other stakeholders to arrive at the respective venues early to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the programmes.
The Delta State Government reiterated its commitment to sustained public enlightenment, positive behavioural change, youth development and the promotion of responsible social values as critical components of its efforts to build a safer, healthier and more prosperous Delta State.
