Dr. Abdulkarim emerges Kogi MDCAN Chairman, Pledges Welfarism as top of his agenda.

The newly elected Chairman of the Kogi State chapter of the Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria, MDCAN, Dr. Musa Abdulkarim has pledged his readiness to address critical challenges being faced by the association to enable function at the optimal capacity for cause of humanity.

Dr. Abdulkarim stated this shortly after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association held at the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja, Kogi State.

Dr. Abdulkarim who was visibly elated for given him the opportunity to serve the health care delivery system in Nigeria vowed to consolidate on the past achievements of his predecessors.

He described MDCAN as the apex body of the medical association in the country, emphasizing that the union will continue to engaged stakeholders at the political and professional level to address issue of manpower development, welfare, infrastructure and capital flight occasioned by the ambition to seek greener pasture.

The MDCAN boss stressed the need for advocacy at both local and national level to draw attention to those critical situations that will enhance health delivery system.

Speaking on health care system in Kogi State, Dr. Abdulkarim said the state is lucky to have her first Federal Teaching Hospital to boost health facility.

He however, pointed out that there are still challenges of personnel, infrastructure and urged stakeholders to look into that direction.

Dr. Abdulkarim call for the expansion of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, to cover the larger percentage of the population apart from it’s current condition of being accessed by only federal government workers and few others.

He appealed to authority to also revived infant hospitals and community health insurance scheme to meet the health need of the people at the local level.

In a remark, the immediate past chairman of the association Dr. Collins Egbeola urged the newly elected chairman to be focused and carried every body along in the scheme of things.

Dr. Egbeola said his tenure has witnessed a lot of development particularly in the aspect of facilities used by the association as well as welfare package of members.

Speaking on the marking of the world suicide prevention day with the theme “creating hope through action”, Dr. Egbeola said urged the people to find solace among friends and families that can improved individuals mood.

He also appealed to politicians to mindful of policies they initiate particularly those that can frustrate people’s finance status and comfort.

According to him, those who sleep to depression to approach qualified health care personnel to address their mental illness.
