Edo 2024: APC Backdoor Strategy Cannot Work in Edo State

Senator Monday Okpebholo

By Osagie Imasogie

From as far back as when the All Progressive Congress, APC, Edo State Chapter, in a shocking primary appointed lukewarm Senator Monday Okpebholo as their gubernatorial candidate for the Edo State election slated for 21st of September, the party has been doing everything possible to bypass voters and the ballot box. The party has been avoiding everything; from debates and intellectual engagements to trying to avoid the upcoming election itself.

The APC has been depending on everything at odd that is democratically required to face Dr Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for the election. The APC is afraid to face the most competent candidate for the election. They heavily depending on lies, deceit, propaganda, slanders…against the most popular candidate as if in it, they can sneak to win the election. The recent is propaganda where they are stealing minds of the public by lying to them that Ighodalo has been ruled against at the Apeal Court sitting in Abuja.

This is not only an untrue, it is a propaganda meant to stray gullible voters. Apart from this, the party instituted about 8 suits against either Ighodalo or the party with just one mission to disqualify Ighodalo. Unfortunately, their strategy is falling like a pack of cards. Most of the cases have been dismissed in the court of first instance because they are frivolous suits.

The APC must up their game. The party must look for better strategy as the election is now weeks off. They must find a way to bring the tortoise like Okpebholo to the public. He must be unmuted to talk to the people he wishes to rule over. He must attend the planned gubernatorial that is being planned. He must stop hiding, the people want to see if he can be appointed as a foreman in a mechanic workshop. Rather than be focused on bringing Ighodalo down, which is proving abortive, they must try to focus on start cleaning their eyes from the pains of selecting the liability.
