Dr. Aliyu Bello, the Nasarawa State Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured women in the state of more tickets of the party in the forthcoming Local Government elections in the state.
The Chairman gave the assurance when he played host to a high powered delegation of women cut across all segments of the society led by Hon. Hajarat Ibrahim Danyaro, member representing Nasarawa Central constituency at the state assembly on advocacy visit at the APC Zonal office Lafia today.
He appreciated the lawmaker for leading such a wonderful delegation to reaffirm their commitments and loyalties to the party and the government.
Bello said in all his life, he has been an advocate of women inclusiveness into elective positions as well as appointments into various government positions.
“Considering the role they played in adding value to democracy and elections at all levels of government.
” I am an advocate for women to be consider for elective positions and appointments into various positions.
” You are the engine room in all elections. I want to assure you of the Party’s support in the coming Local Government election.
” We have done it in the past and will continue to do it again and again. The party will be fair to you,” He said.
The APC Chairman called on women to come out and contest for elective positions in the next LG election along side their male counterparts
” Because we have women who are competent, capable, hardworking and committed to the development of the state.
” We can’t do it alone. We need your support to be able to deliver in our campaign promises.
” You are they ones that mobilizes women to support us, so this time around with the support of the Governor we are going to make sure you occupy not only the position of Deputy Chairmen but that of the secretaries of the councils, Overseers of Development Areas among other appointments,” he said.
According to him, Out of the five supervisory councillors in each of the LGC, is automatically given, considerations also on the Deputy Chairmen, and many windows will be open for women, many women will occupy significant positions at the LGA,” he said.
He warned the women against politics of religious, ethnicity and sentiment, noting that what happened during the last election in the state is a bitter experience and no right thinking person will wish it to happen again.
” Women should not allow themselves to be used by desperate politicians who don’t wish the state well,” he added
The APC Chairman called on them to continue to support the good policies of Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s administration.
Earlier, Hon Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, member representing Nasarawa Central constituency and Leader of the delegation said the visit was to appreciate the APC Chairman for his all inclusive leadership in the state.
She advocated for women to be considered into the positions of Deputy Chairmen, Councillors, Overseers among others.
” Hon Chairman, you are a great pillar of women, even when you served as the secretary of the party.
” You supported the emergence of women as Deputy Chairmen in Lafia two times, councillor in Wamba among other numerous positions in the state.
” I personally complained to you to assist so that more women will occupy chairmanship positions in the Local Government Areas. We appreciate you and believe you can do more as always,” she said
The lawmaker expressed concern over poor women representation in positions in the state.
She said that she is the only female member in the assembly and appealed for Bello’s support for women to succeed in the 2027 election.
“So that we can have at least ten women members/lawmakers for the voice of women to be strong and loud.
” Women produced 60 to 65 per cent votes in all elections. Women have all the qualities needed to be Deputy Chairmen. It happened in Kwara State, Kogi State, Ekiti, Niger and the rest.
” It can be possible here in Nasarawa. We are not saying we want to rub shoulder with men, no,”
” Out of 147 councillors representing different wards at the 13 LG councils in the state only 4 women are councillors. It is unfortunate. We deserve more than this. We will not disappoint you” . She said.
Others who spoke at the occasion included, Commissioner, Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning, Hon Munirat Abdullahi, APC Woman Leader, Blessing Ibrahim, Executive Secretary, Scholarship Board, Hon Sa’adatu Yahaya, former House of Assembly member representing Nassarawa Eggon East Constituency, Mrs Mary Enwongulu, and former SSG, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed, all corroborated with the views of Hon Hajarat.
They urged women to put their sentiments and individual differences aside and work towards supporting each other in order to win elective positions.
They advocated and encouraged women participation in political activities in order to give them a sense of belonging.
The women appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for appointing more women into his cabinet and appealed for more to enable them contribute positively to the development of the state.
