Following immense pressure from Governor Godwin Obaseki and other Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders, the Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed the collation of governorship election results until 10 am on Sunday, September 22.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, made the announcement in a statement early this morning, following heightened pressure from the PDP to adhere to electoral law, citing an earlier decision to abandon collation procedures.

“This is to inform the general public, political stakeholders and observers that the collation of results for the ongoing Edo State Governorship election will resume today (Sunday) 22nd September, 2024 at 10.00am,” the REC said.

PDP supporters stormed the State INEC office after the electoral umpire stopped collating results in several Edo South local governments and relocated to the state party secretariat, citing security concerns.

Governor Obaseki and concerned stakeholders alerted the public to the bypassing of collation procedures, as Osarodion Ogie Esq., PDP Deputy Governorship candidate, pointed out that collation in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area was stopped and relocated to the State INEC office, with party agents barred from the exercise.
