Dr. Emmanuel Johnson Chukwuka, the Nigerian delegate at the recent All-Russian Youth Education Forum (SHUM) organized by the Russian Federation’s World Youth Festival Directorate, has urged journalists to correct historical biases through research, particularly those perpetuated against Russia and Africa by Western countries.

Dr. Chukwuka, who was the Action Alliance’s Vice Presidential candidate in the 2023 Nigerian general election, delivered remarks in Russia’s Kaliningrad region at an event held from October 26 to November 1, 2024.

Speaking on ‘Media versus Journalism In A Rapidly Changing World’, a medical doctor and leading Nigerian politician stressed that media reports require thorough investigation before dissemination, as many spread false narratives fueled by Western countries against perceived enemies, notably nations like Russia that have fiercely opposed Western institutions such as fascism and colonialism.

He said, ‘Russia fought against colonialism globally, combated fascism, and is now prepared to narrate its own story. It’s become necessary for us to tell our stories since no one else will do so if we don’t. The West isn’t willing to tell your story for you.’

“I’m Nigerian, and we’re victims of Russia’s ongoing battle. This is the vital cause Russia is fighting for.”

“Africans are the highest victims of the West. Russia has gained an incredible level of acceptance in Africa, and over 80 percent of the African population are siding with Russia.”

“It’s time for a unifying partnership to share our stories and enhance cooperation, ensuring our nations’ people derive the greatest benefits from each other.”

“Dr. Chukwuka called on journalists worldwide to uphold professionalism in their work and refrain from misleading the public.”

The prominent Nigerian politician stressed that media professionals bear significant responsibilities in fostering national development, underscoring the imperative for journalists to serve as vigilant societal guardians.

“As media practitioners gather at the SHUM Forum in Kaliningrad, I encourage them to leverage their professionalism for objective reporting, focusing on stories that inspire governments to prioritize public interests.”

“Ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections, I wish to see journalists from diverse media organisations report facts without bias, thereby enabling the nation to elect capable leaders who will drive progress.”
