Tifirm Hosts Business initiative to Champion Digital Empowerment for Youths at NSUK

Theatre Arts and Cultural Studies Complex, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, came alive as young entrepreneur Omotayo Israel Samuel, founder of Tifirm, a non governmental organization, hosted business initiative tagged “Business of Business Ceremony” (BBC) with the theme “Digital Dreamscapes: Empowering Youths in the Virtual World.”

The event drew dignitaries from diverse fields who applauded the initiative and emphasized the importance of digital skills in today’s world.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Olarewaju Funke Rashida, Director, Entrepreneurship Development Center, NSUK, described the event as a milestone in youth-driven innovation.

“The BBC, regarding business, is one which I am so proud of. The host, Omotayo Samuel Israel, is someone who is so intellectual, vibrant, and intelligent, and we are so excited to have this sort of program here in NSUK. More especially as it is something I have always been looking forward to, so we totally support this great initiative,” she said.

Also lending his voice, Dr. Richardson Ojeka, Founder and CEO of Africado represented by Mr. Paul Akume, Founder of Face Africa and Pixlcol, hailed the initiative.

“The BBC is a great initiative. I am always excited to see young people do great things like what Tayo is doing with Tifirm. I am willing to partner with Tifirm in order to see it come to live,” he said.

He further urged young people to learn digital skills and put it into great use.

In his paper titled, “Dynamics of digital citizenship” Dr. Santas Tsegyu, Head of the Department of Journalism, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, emphasized the importance of digital literacy, citing that 5.44 billion people are online globally, according to Data Portal 2024.

He urged online users to develop self-monitored habits that sustain and improve digital communities emphasizing the need for students to develop critical thinking skills to navigate the digital landscape effectively.

“I advice you to avoid cyberbullying, harassment, and hate speech, protecting personal information, and being mindful of digital footprints”.

On her part, Dr. Ochanya Mercy Lamai, lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, NSUK, emphasized the necessity of digital literacy in Nigeria.

“The world has evolved, and everything has basically gone digital. Youths and young people should strive to be entrepreneurs and not job seekers. They must learn to be independent, critical thinkers, and job creators,” they affirmed.

Mr. Omotayo Israel Samuel, Founder and CEO of Tifirm, explained that the program aimed to empower young people, particularly students, to succeed in online business using digital platforms, noted that Tifirm has been in existence since 2022 and has achieved remarkable success despite challenges.

“The seminar was designed to nurture both online and physical businesses, I partnered with relevant organizations such as companies, Universities among others to enable me achieve this goal”.

According to him, having navigated various online platforms and investments, including unfortunate encounters with Ponzi schemes, Omotayo, recognized the need for a trusted, reliable, and seamless digital experience.
