We’ll Guide You Through New Tax Reform, Edo Govt Assures Taxpayers
The Edo State Government has assured residents of a seamless transition to the new tax reform as the implementation of the New Nigeria Tax Acts takes off today, January 1, 2026.
Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Otunba Hon. Oladele Bankole-Balogun, Esq., gave the assurance in his New Year message to taxpayers in the state.
He said the reforms are designed to be fairer and more progressive, with clear reliefs for vulnerable groups, including the exemption of low-income earners from personal income tax, as well as simplified compliance procedures for small businesses.
“As we usher in the promise of 2026, I, on behalf of the EIRS Board, Management and Staff, extend my warmest wishes and profound gratitude for your resilience as taxpayers all through the year 2025,” the statement read.

“Your unwavering commitment to the fulfillment of your civic duties remains the cornerstone of our State’s progress, fueling vital infrastructure, healthcare and educational advancements that benefit every citizen.”Bankole-Balogun described 2026 as a “historic turning point” with the full implementation of the New Nigeria Tax Acts effective today, noting that the service is upgrading its systems to support taxpayers.
“As we transition to these modernised frameworks, including the adoption of the National Identification Number (NIN) for seamless Taxpayer Identification (Tax ID), I urge all taxable entities to embrace these changes with the highest sense of responsibility,” he said.
“The EIRS is fully committed to guiding you through this transition with transparency and digital ease, ensuring that your contributions continue to build a vibrant and self-sustaining Edo State.”
