Nasarawa Assembly Closes Ramadan Tafsir as Speaker, Cleric Urge Sustenance of Holy Month Lessons
The Muslim community of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday marked the solemn closure of this year’s Ramadan Tafsir at the State Assembly Mosque, with the Speaker, Dr. Danladi Jatau, and a prominent Islamic cleric urging faithfuls to embed the spiritual lessons and virtuous deeds of the holy month into their daily lives beyond the fasting period.
It would be recalled that the 2026 Ramadan Tafir, a cherished annual tradition of Quranic recitation, interpretation, and commentary, was officially opened on Monday, February 23, at the same venue, drawing lawmakers, staff, and believers to reinforce the tenets of Islam, bolster spiritual well-being, and invoke the blessings of Ramadan through collective worship and reflection.
Speaking at the well-attended closing ceremony, Dr. Jatau, who was represented by the Deputy Director of Administration and Supplies, Danladi Suleiman Gyabo, declared the event closed while emphasizing the enduring significance of Ramadan’s teachings, calling on the Muslim ummah to sustain acts of piety, charity, and compassion even after the crescent moon signals the end of fasting, particularly by alleviating the sufferings of the vulnerable through consistent alms-giving as exemplified by Prophet Mohammed (SAW).

Dr. Jatau, through his representative, highlighted how the society’s multifaceted challenges, ranging from financial hardships to other vulnerabilities, underscore the imperative for Muslims to extend their Ramadan benevolence year-round, insisting that fasting and prayers gain true meaning only when complemented by zakat and sadaqah, while also re-echoing the timeless call for peace, unity, and mutual assistance to foster an egalitarian society for all Nasarawa residents irrespective of creed or status.
In his poignant Quranic commentary during the session, Islamic cleric Mallam Mohammed Mohammed Sarki delivered a stirring exhortation, reminding the congregation of the divine imperatives for justice, fairness, transparency, and righteousness in all affairs, urging them to build upon Ramadan’s good deeds, shun negative vices, and continue voluntary fasting in subsequent months to fortify their faith and amass greater rewards in the hereafter.
Mallam Sarki stressed that true adherence to Islamic obligations transcends ritualistic worship, positioning Ramadan not merely as a period of abstinence but as a profound opportunity to attract Allah’s grace and mercy through exemplary conduct, while issuing a stern warning against shirk, associating partners with God, and imploring believers to uphold the month’s lessons for personal blessings and societal progress.
The ceremony culminated in fervent prayers offered for the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, its leadership, Governor Abdullahi Sule, the state government, and the nation at large, seeking divine guidance amid ongoing economic and security challenges.
This annual Tafsir, deeply rooted in the Assembly’s Muslim community’s commitment to spiritual renewal, serves as a beacon for lawmakers to lead by example in promoting religious harmony and moral uprightness in Nasarawa, a state renowned for its interfaith coexistence.
