Labour Party Unveils Timetable, Fees for 2027 Primary Elections

The Labour Party has released its timetable, schedule of activities, and fees for the conduct of its 2026 primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on May 3, 2026, by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party said the schedule is in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act, 2026, and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) revised timetable for the 2027 polls.

According to the party, the sale of nomination forms for all elective positions will commence on May 6 and end on May 16, 2026, while submission of completed forms is scheduled for May 17 to May 18.

Screening of aspirants for House of Assembly and governorship positions will take place on May 20, while those for National Assembly and presidential aspirants will be screened on May 22. The results of the screening exercise are expected to be published on May 23.

The party fixed May 24 and May 25 for the hearing of appeals and petitions for state and national positions respectively, while the final list of cleared aspirants will be released on May 26.

Primary elections for House of Assembly and governorship positions are slated for May 27, while those for National Assembly and presidential candidates will hold on May 29, 2026.

The party also announced the fees for nomination forms across various offices. Aspirants for State Houses of Assembly are to pay a total of ₦3 million, comprising ₦1 million for the Expression of Interest form and ₦2 million for the Nomination form.

House of Representatives aspirants will pay ₦5 million, while Senate aspirants are to pay ₦10 million. Governorship aspirants will pay ₦25 million, while the presidential form costs ₦50 million.

The party, however, disclosed that Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, will receive the governorship form free of charge.

In line with its principles of equal opportunity and social justice, the Labour Party granted concessions to women, persons living with disabilities, and youth aged between 25 and 30, who will only be required to purchase the Expression of Interest forms for all positions.

The party further urged all prospective aspirants who are yet to register as members to take advantage of its ongoing electronic registration, which runs from May 3 to midnight of May 4, 2026, ahead of the submission of its membership register to INEC in compliance with the Electoral Act.
