A large number of Bassa indigenes from Tawari Electoral Ward in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State on Sunday defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors, operating under the Bassa Forum, said their decision was informed by a desire to key into the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the developmental strides of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Speaking on behalf of the group, representatives of the forum said the move was aimed at promoting development, peace, and security within their community.

They noted that the leadership style and impactful projects of Abubakar Bashir Gegu significantly influenced their decision, pledging total loyalty to the APC.

Other speakers at the event commended the defectors, describing their action as bold and progressive.

Addressing the gathering, Barr. Muhammed Musa Tanko Osuku, Executive Chairman of Kogi State Civil Service Commission stated that the APC remains open to individuals and groups willing to join its fold.

He praised the Bassa Forum for what he termed a “wise and timely decision,” adding that opposition parties have lost relevance due to their inability to deliver effective governance.

Tanko, who also serves as Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Civil Service Commission, described Engr. Bashir Gegu as a leader with a “Midas touch.”

He urged the new entrants to justify their defection through active participation and commitment to party ideals, assuring them of opportunities under Governor Ododo’s administration.

In his remarks, Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu, Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, emphasized that the APC does not discriminate between old and new members, assuring the defectors of equal treatment within the party.

He stressed that dedication, sincerity, and hard work remain the criteria for recognition and reward.

The Kogi LG political leader further advised the Bassa Forum to embrace peace as a foundation for development, warning that crises only breed setbacks and destruction.
