“I Investigated Pastor Jerry Eze for Six Months for Money Laundering and Later Called Him to Commend Him” — EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede Reveals
The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed that he once ordered an extensive investigation into the financial activities of popular cleric, Pastor Jerry Eze, over suspicions of money laundering.
Olukoyede made the revelation while speaking publicly on the Commission’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and fairness in carrying out its anti-corruption mandate.
According to the EFCC boss, the investigation into Pastor Jerry Eze lasted for six months, during which the agency thoroughly examined the pastor’s financial records, transactions, and ministry operations to determine whether there was any evidence of illicit financial dealings.
He explained that after the detailed probe, investigators found no trace of wrongdoing or money laundering linked to the founder of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD).
Olukoyede stated that rather than remain silent after the clean outcome, he personally reached out to Pastor Jerry Eze to commend him for maintaining financial integrity and transparency.
“I investigated Pastor Jerry Eze for six months for money laundering and later called him to commend him,” Olukoyede said.
The EFCC chairman noted that the action demonstrates that the Commission does not target individuals based on status, religion, or popularity, but instead follows intelligence, evidence, and due process in all cases brought before it.
He further emphasized that where allegations are proven false, those cleared deserve to be acknowledged, just as offenders must be held accountable when found guilty.
The disclosure has since generated reactions online, with many Nigerians praising the EFCC chairman for his candour and for publicly acknowledging the pastor after the investigation yielded no incriminating evidence.
Pastor Jerry Eze is one of Nigeria’s most influential Christian leaders, with a global following through his online prayer platform, NSPPD.
