By Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe Esq
The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries held across Delta State on Saturday, May 16, 2026, once again demonstrated the growing strength of internal democracy within the party under the leadership of the Governor and State Party Leader, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as aspirants and party faithful participated peacefully in the direct primary elections conducted across the various federal constituencies.
The exercise, which attracted massive participation from party members at the grassroots, has widely been described by stakeholders and observers as transparent, credible, peaceful, and reflective of the wishes of the people. The conduct of the primaries has further reinforced confidence in the party’s democratic processes and the commitment of its leadership to fairness and inclusiveness.
At the end of the exercise, the following candidates emerged victorious to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming House of Representatives elections:

The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme also participated in the exercise and commended party members for their orderly conduct and commitment to democracy.
Speaking with newsmen after casting his vote, the governor reiterated the importance of maintaining a level playing field for all aspirants, emphasizing that the unity and progress of the party remain paramount.
Political observers have noted that the peaceful atmosphere that characterized the primaries is a strong indication of the growing maturity within the APC in Delta State. Particularly commendable is the sportsmanship already being displayed by some aspirants who did not emerge victorious but have nonetheless congratulated the winners and pledged continued loyalty to the party.
As the primaries conclude, attention must now shift from competition to collaboration. Elections are won not merely by individuals, but by united political families working together toward a common goal. The APC party structures in Delta State must therefore consolidate on the gains of this successful exercise by embracing reconciliation, inclusiveness, and collective responsibility.
To all aspirants who participated in the contest, it is important to recognize that every ambition was driven by a shared desire to serve the people and advance the fortunes of the party. While only one candidate could emerge in each constituency, every aspirant remains a critical stakeholder whose contributions, structures, supporters, and political experience are invaluable to the success of the APC moving forward.
This is the time to close ranks, heal every perceived grievance, and work together as one united family. The greater objective remains the victory of the APC and the continued advancement of democratic representation for the people of Delta State.
Party leaders, stakeholders, youths, women groups, and supporters across the state are therefore encouraged to rally behind all the candidates who emerged from the process and work tirelessly to ensure victory at the polls. Unity, mutual respect, and sustained engagement among party faithful will undoubtedly strengthen the APC’s position ahead of the general elections.
The successful conduct of these primaries has sent a strong signal that the APC in Delta State is prepared, organized, and committed to democratic ideals. With reconciliation, strategic cooperation, and sustained grassroots mobilization, the party stands well positioned to achieve greater success in the coming elections.
Ultimately, the true winners should be the people of Delta State, who deserve purposeful representation, development-oriented leadership, and a political process built on fairness, peace, and unity.
