Former Executive Secretary of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Nasarawa West Senatorial District after polling 8,711 votes in the party’s primary election.

The senatorial primary, which was conducted on Monday at the VIP Lodge in Keffi, was largely peaceful and hitch-free, unlike the House of Representatives primaries in some parts of the zone, which reportedly experienced delays due to the late arrival of electoral materials across the 59 wards in the district.

Dr. Shuaib, who was initially a frontline governorship aspirant, stepped down from the governorship race following the endorsement of incumbent Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Following his withdrawal from the governorship contest, Shuaib joined the senatorial race and was subsequently returned on a consensus basis after results from the five local government areas of the district were collated

Results made available to journalists showed that the former NPHCDA boss secured a total of 8,711 votes, although an official declaration had yet to be made as of the time of filing this report.

Speaking earlier during the distribution of electoral materials, Chairman of the Senate Primary Committee for Nasarawa West, Hon. Mathew Gambo, assured party members and stakeholders of a transparent and credible process.

According to him, all electoral materials, including membership registers, result sheets and collation documents for the five local government areas, were available and ready for distribution to electoral officers

“We are here to conduct the Senate primary for Nasarawa West. At the end of the exercise, results will be collated and the winner declared as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 general election,” he said.

Gambo also appealed to electoral officers and agents of aspirants to conduct themselves peacefully, stressing that the exercise was an internal party affair that required discipline and cooperation.

Also present at the venue was former National Chairman of the APC and first civilian Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Adamu, who monitored the distribution of materials.

Adamu commended the APC national leadership and electoral officials for the improvements recorded during the National Assembly primaries and expressed optimism that the senate primaries would further strengthen internal democracy within the party.
