Health workers in Delta State have declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing government interventions in healthcare delivery and workers’ welfare.
The endorsement was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting in Asaba, where participants discussed developments in the state’s health sector, professional responsibilities and government policies.
Speaking at the meeting, the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, said the workers’ support for Governor Oborevwori’s second-term ambition was influenced by what he described as the administration’s interventions in the health sector.
Onojaeme urged healthcare professionals across the state to remain committed to their duties and support policies and programmes aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving residents’ welfare.
Also addressing the gathering, the Director of Protocol, Government House, Chief Sunday Onoriode, commended health workers for their dedication and sacrifices in providing medical services to residents.
He encouraged the workers to take the messages and programmes of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori to their respective communities and mobilise support for both leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
Onoriode described the endorsement as a reciprocal gesture in recognition of what he said were the contributions of the two administrations to governance, development and the welfare of Nigerians and Deltans.
He expressed confidence that the Oborevwori administration would sustain its development programmes under the MORE Agenda, which he said was designed to improve the living conditions of residents.
The Chairman of the Delta State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Paul Oweh, and other speakers also expressed support for the governor’s re-election bid, highlighting government initiatives they said had improved the working environment for healthcare professionals and access to medical services.
Meanwhile, the meeting featured a health education session on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), during which the Delta State Epidemiologist, Dr Mildred Okowa-Igumbor, called for sustained public awareness and adherence to preventive health measures.
Okowa-Igumbor disclosed that no case of Ebola had been recorded in Delta State, assuring residents that there was no immediate cause for panic.
She, however, stressed the importance of vigilance, early reporting of suspected cases and compliance with established health guidelines.
A major highlight of the gathering was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Governor Oborevwori by the Delta State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives in recognition of his administration’s contributions to the health sector.
The meeting brought together government officials, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to review developments in healthcare delivery, acknowledge government interventions and discuss strategies for improving service delivery across Delta State.
The political endorsement also formed part of discussions at the gathering, with health workers publicly declaring their support for Tinubu and Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 general elections.
