The academic and political communities in Nasarawa State have been thrown into mourning following the death of renowned scholar and former Rector of Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, Professor Silas D. Gyar.

Prof. Gyar reportedly passed away on Tuesday evening at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, after a prolonged illness.

The late professor was also the Chairman of the Campaign Council of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada and was widely respected for his contributions to education, public service, and grassroots development.

Confirming the sad development, Professor Akyala expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the distinguished academic, describing him as a beloved mentor and an influential figure within the university community.

In a condolence message, Prof. Akyala stated:

“God has called Prof. S.D. Gyar to be with Him this evening at FMC Keffi. May God comfort his family and the entire university community. Rest in peace, our beloved mentor.”

Until his death, Prof. Gyar remained a respected voice in academia and public affairs. He made significant contributions to the growth of higher education and institutional development in Nasarawa State, earning the admiration of colleagues, students, and public officials alike.

Beyond the academic sphere, he was known for his advocacy for grassroots empowerment and social development.

His leadership role as Chairman of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada’s Campaign Council further demonstrated his commitment to political engagement and the advancement of democratic ideals.
