PAAU VC Visits Family of Deceased Student, Vows Arrested Suspects Will Face Justice
The Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, has assured the family of late Mr. David Ocholi Solomon, a 300-level Biochemistry student of the institution, that the two suspects arrested in connection with his killing will face justice.
According to a press release issued by Uredo Omale, Public Relations Officer, Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Professor Usman gave the assurance when he led a delegation of the University Management on a condolence visit to the family of the deceased at their residence in Lokoja on Friday, June 12, 2026.
He disclosed that the suspects were apprehended by the University’s internal security team within two hours of the incident and have since been handed over to law enforcement agencies for further investigation and prosecution.
The Vice-Chancellor, who received news of the tragic incident while attending the 35th Annual National Conference and Convention of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) at the University of Ibadan, described the incident as painful and deeply distressing, noting that the entire University community was thrown into mourning.
Professor Usman conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the University Management, staff, and students to the bereaved family, describing the student’s death as tragic, painful, and unacceptable.
He assured the family that the University is working closely with security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter and that everyone found to have played any role—directly or indirectly—would be identified and made to face the full weight of the law.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that PAAU maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward cultism, violence, criminality, and all forms of anti-social behaviour capable of threatening the lives and aspirations of students and other members of the University community.
He further revealed that the University has intensified security surveillance and strengthened existing security measures across the campus and surrounding communities to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
According to him, additional security reforms and strategies will be unveiled in the coming days to further strengthen the institution’s security architecture.
Professor Usman stressed that the University Management remains fully in control of the security situation and continues to review proactive strategies aimed at ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
He reassured parents, guardians, and members of the public that PAAU remains committed to providing a safe, peaceful, and conducive environment for teaching, learning, and research. He added that the institution would continue to collaborate with relevant security agencies to sustain peace and security within and around the campus.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the bereaved family to remain strong during this difficult period and to support ongoing investigations by providing any useful information that could assist security agencies in uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Professor Usman also expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his continued support toward safeguarding lives and property within the University.
He also appreciated the Ogohi-Onuh of Anyigba, Alhaji Abu Shaibu Okolo, the Executive Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, Hon. John Urah Ikani, and all security agencies for their unwavering commitment to peace and security in the University community.
Responding on behalf of the family, the father of the deceased student, Mr. Solomon Idachaba, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for the condolence visit, concern, and support shown to the family.
He commended the University’s swift response following the incident and thanked the Management for its commitment to ensuring that justice is served.
