“Ohinoyi Egbira Lokoja: Ohimegye Igu Koton-Karfe Suspends Coronation, Moves for Peace

Amid the controversy surrounding the proposed installation of the Ohinoyi of the Egbira community in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, the Ohimegye Igu Koton-Karfe, His Royal Majesty Dr. Saidu Akawu Salihu, on Tuesday convened a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at finding a lasting and peaceful resolution to the matter.
Dr. Akawu Salihu, who also serves as Chairman of the Lokoja/Kogi Traditional Council of Chiefs, addressed members of the Egbira Miyakani community over the growing tension generated by the planned coronation of the Ohinoyi of the Egbira community in Lokoja.
The paramount ruler of the Egbira people in Kogi State stated that following extensive consultations with government officials, traditional rulers, and critical stakeholders, he had directed that the proposed coronation be suspended with immediate effect.
According to him, the decision was taken in the interest of peace, unity, and the preservation of the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the Egbira nation.
He urged all Egbira Miyakani indigenes in Lokoja to remain law-abiding, follow due process, and strictly adhere to established traditional procedures guiding the selection and installation of the Ohinoyi.
The royal father emphasized that due process remains essential to ensuring that the eventual choice reflects the collective will of Egbira Miyakani sons and daughters, while also preserving the dignity and sanctity of the traditional stool.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the unity, peace, and progress of the Egbira people, calling on all parties involved to remain calm and allow the appropriate traditional and administrative procedures to take their course.
Global Times Nigeria reports that the meeting held at the Palace and attracted several top government officials and stakeholders, including the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Hon. Engr. Chief Muhammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu; the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Civil Service Commission, Hon. Barr. Muhammed Tanko Musa Osuku, Permanent Secretaries; the Chairman of Kogi Local Government Area, Hon. Abdulmalik Musa, traditional rulers; community leaders; youth representatives; and other notable personalities.
