Doris Ogala’s Viral Video Sets Stage for Development Debate in Abia

A viral video involving the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Doris Ogala, has continued to generate reactions across social media, with fresh concerns raised over the true state of development in the state.

In a statement issued on June 25, 2026, Obika James Abuchi addressed the controversy surrounding a now-deleted video in which Dr. Ogala commented on the beauty of Abia State. While acknowledging the withdrawal of the video, Abuchi said the broader issues raised by the incident should not be ignored.

According to him, the central concern is not merely about one statement or video, but about what he described as the stark contrast between the Abia portrayed on social media and the realities faced by residents, especially those in rural communities.

He argued that while the government continues to showcase development in selected urban areas, many rural local government areas still struggle with poor infrastructure, weak healthcare systems, and deteriorating educational facilities.

Abuchi stressed that true development must be inclusive and should be felt across all 17 local government areas of the state, rather than being concentrated in highly visible urban centers such as Aba, Umuahia, and Arochukwu.

He further stated that despite substantial federal allocations, internally generated revenue, and other statutory funds received by the state over the past three years, visible progress in several rural communities remains limited.

Using Umunneochi as an example, he noted that residents have seen little evidence of the large financial inflows into the state, describing the situation as a troubling sign of neglect.

Abuchi challenged the Labour Party-led administration to publicly release a comprehensive breakdown of projects executed in each of the 17 LGAs, including project costs, timelines, and current status.

“If such records exist, they should be made available for public scrutiny. If not, the government owes the people an explanation,” he said.

He maintained that Dr. Ogala has consistently argued that the Abia presented online differs significantly from the realities on the ground, adding that he fully supports her position.

According to him, social media videos and photographs often present only a curated image of the state, leaving out abandoned schools, unfinished roads, and health centres lacking essential medical supplies.

Abuchi also asserted that the forthcoming election would not be decided by online narratives or media campaigns, but by voters evaluating whether governance has improved their daily lives.

He expressed confidence that Abians would choose leadership based on competence, accessibility, and a practical vision for inclusive development.

He further projected victory for Dr. Ogala, claiming her grassroots engagement and policy direction have earned her widespread support.

Abuchi called on the Abia State government, the Labour Party, and their supporters to focus less on media distractions and more on transparency and accountability in governance.

He concluded by emphasizing that the people of Abia deserve openness regarding public funds and measurable development across every part of the state.

“The people deserve transparency, and this administration must remain accountable to them,” he stated.
