PAAU Strengthens Campus Security, Donates Two Operational Vehicles to Security Agencies

Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has reinforced its security architecture with the donation of two branded operational vehicles to security agencies as part of measures to combat cultism and other criminal activities within the institution and its host community.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, announced the initiative during an Expanded Security Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Monday at the University’s Council Chamber. The meeting brought together members of the university community, security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to review strategies for enhancing security on and around the campus.

Professor Usman said the university remains committed to providing a peaceful, safe and conducive environment for teaching, learning and research through sustained collaboration with security agencies, traditional institutions and community leaders.

According to him, one of the newly acquired vehicles has been assigned to the Joint Security and Anti-Cultism Squad to strengthen anti-cultism operations, while the second will support routine security patrols within the university and surrounding communities.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the University’s Management Committee, at its 403rd meeting, approved the reconstitution of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee and the Examination Misconduct Committee to strengthen discipline and ensure strict enforcement of institutional regulations.

As part of broader efforts to address student misconduct, he announced the establishment of a Committee on Behavioural Change and Cult Renunciation. The committee, he explained, will identify, counsel and rehabilitate students involved in anti-social activities while providing them with an opportunity to renounce unlawful associations.

He warned that students who refuse to abandon criminal activities would face appropriate legal sanctions.

Professor Usman also dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media video alleging cult activities at Prince Abubakar Audu University, clarifying that the incident neither occurred within the institution nor anywhere in Kogi State. He urged members of the public to disregard the video, describing it as a deliberate attempt to create unnecessary panic.

Reaffirming the university’s commitment to the safety of lives and property, the Vice-Chancellor assured students, parents and guardians that the management would continue to strengthen its partnership with security agencies to eliminate all forms of criminality.

He expressed appreciation to the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his continued support in enhancing the university’s security framework. He also acknowledged the contributions of the immediate past governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, for his support towards sustaining a peaceful academic environment.

In separate remarks, the Ogohi Onu-Anyigba, HRH Alhaji Shaibu Okolo, and the Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, Hon. John Urah Ikani, commended the university management for its proactive approach to campus security and pledged continued support for efforts aimed at maintaining peace and safety.

The meeting was attended by heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, representatives of the host community and other stakeholders, who reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the university’s drive to maintain a secure environment for teaching, learning and research.
