The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed what it described as a misleading and politically motivated attempt by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and his media team to misrepresent recent remarks made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu concerning governance and infrastructure development.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq., the APC said comments attributed to the President had been deliberately taken out of context in an effort to create the false impression that they were directed at the administration of Governor Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori.
According to the party, President Tinubu neither mentioned Delta State nor singled out Governor Oborevwori during his address to governors.
The APC maintained that the President’s remarks were a general advisory to state governors on prioritising infrastructure projects based on necessity, stressing that they should not be twisted into a political attack on an administration with what it described as an impressive record of achievements across Delta State’s 25 local government areas.
The party further clarified that President Tinubu did not condemn the construction of flyovers but simply emphasised that such projects should be undertaken where they are genuinely needed.
It stated that although it would ordinarily ignore what it called another politically motivated attempt to diminish the achievements of the Oborevwori administration, it had become necessary to set the record straight in the interest of fairness, transparency and the people of Delta State.
Infrastructure Beyond Flyovers
The APC noted that the flyover projects at DSC Roundabout, PTI Junction, Enerhen, Ughelli and Agbor represent only a fraction of the administration’s broad infrastructure development agenda.
According to the statement, more than 2,000 kilometres of roads have either been completed, rehabilitated or are currently under construction across the state. It added that extensive drainage projects have also been executed to improve connectivity to communities, markets, schools and healthcare facilities across Delta’s three senatorial districts.
The party also highlighted the Governor’s approval of a ₦175 billion allocation for projects spread across all 25 local government areas, with each council receiving ₦7 billion to accelerate grassroots development and improve public infrastructure.
Healthcare, Education and Human Capital Development
The APC described healthcare as one of the administration’s strongest areas of intervention.
It said over 150 Primary Healthcare Centres are currently undergoing upgrades across the state, while free maternal and child healthcare programmes have continued uninterrupted.
The statement added that government support for the Mother and Child Hospital, Osubi, remains steady, while the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Southern Delta University, Ozoro, and the College of Health Technology, Ovrode, have been completed.
According to the party, more than 200 healthcare professionals have been recruited, alongside the deployment of modern medical equipment to improve healthcare delivery.
In the education sector, the APC said over 1,000 primary and secondary schools have been renovated and equipped, while facilities in state-owned tertiary institutions have been upgraded.
It further stated that ICT centres have been established, bursary and scholarship programmes sustained, and thousands of teaching and non-teaching personnel recruited to strengthen learning across the state.
Empowerment, Agriculture and Social Inclusion
The statement revealed that since assuming office, Governor Oborevwori has empowered more than 300,000 Deltans through initiatives covering agriculture, technology, entrepreneurship and vocational skills acquisition.
It added that grants and financial support have also been extended to market women, artisans, widows and persons living with disabilities across the state.
The APC also cited the Governor’s recent approval of ₦175 million to assist Delta indigenes displaced by xenophobic attacks in South Africa, describing the intervention as evidence that the administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda combines compassion with sustainable development.
The party further stated that farmers continue to benefit from subsidised agricultural inputs, rural access roads, livestock development and aquaculture programmes.
Security, Fiscal Responsibility and Good Governance
On security, the APC said the state government has continued to provide operational vehicles, logistics and other support to security agencies to enhance public safety.
The statement added that pension arrears have been substantially addressed, workers’ salaries are paid promptly, while investments in solar-powered streetlights, water schemes and electricity infrastructure continue across the state.
It stressed that these developmental strides have been achieved without borrowing, describing the administration as fiscally disciplined and prudent in the management of public resources.
The party also pointed to recognitions received from organisations including the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS) and the Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative (PLSI), which it said acknowledged Delta State’s progress in governance, accountability and public financial management.
It further noted that Governor Oborevwori has received several Governor of the Year awards from reputable media organisations in recognition of his leadership and developmental achievements.
Delta APC Urges Citizens to Judge Government by Results
The APC stated that Governor Oborevwori has consistently allowed his performance to define his leadership, both as former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and now as Governor.
It argued that responsible governance requires balanced investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, security and social welfare rather than treating them as competing priorities.
According to the party, the administration has demonstrated that meaningful progress can be achieved simultaneously across multiple sectors through prudent planning and effective implementation.
As Delta State prepares to host the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba from August 3 to 5, the APC said the government remains committed to presenting a state driven by fiscal discipline, infrastructure expansion, economic growth and inclusive development.
The statement concluded that no amount of political propaganda can erase visible achievements such as completed roads, upgraded hospitals, renovated schools and thousands of lives positively impacted through empowerment programmes.
It therefore urged Deltans to continue assessing the Oborevwori administration based on verifiable projects, measurable outcomes and tangible improvements in the lives of citizens rather than politically motivated narratives.
