The 2027 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, has condemned the killing of four people in Abaashwa community, Mbaasar, Nzorov Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, describing the attack as a tragic reflection of the persistent insecurity facing the state.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by his Media Assistant, James Ian, the victims were reportedly killed by suspected armed herdsmen, while several others sustained injuries during the attack.
Aondoakaa described the incident as “barbaric” and “heartbreaking”, saying it highlighted the urgent need for stronger measures to protect lives and communities across Benue State.
He extended condolences to the families of those killed and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
The senior lawyer said repeated attacks on communities had continued to create fear among residents, forcing many farmers from their lands and posing a threat to Benue’s agricultural economy.
He argued that effective security should be measured by the ability to prevent attacks rather than responding after lives had already been lost.
“The people of Benue deserve security, not endless condolences,” he said, urging the state government to prioritise the protection of lives and property as its foremost constitutional responsibility.
Aondoakaa also expressed concern over reports that some injured victims faced delays in receiving medical treatment because of the ongoing industrial action by doctors in the state.
He called on the authorities to put emergency arrangements in place to ensure that victims of violent attacks receive immediate medical care capable of saving lives.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed, healing for the injured and comfort for the bereaved families.
