The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has commended Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his proactive approach to combating kidnapping and insecurity in the state.
The student body particularly praised the administration over the prompt rescue of 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and other abducted victims, describing the development as a significant victory in the fight against criminality.
NAPS Vice President, National Affairs, Comr. Agada Noah, gave the commendation while addressing journalists at a press conference.
Noah said the successful rescue operations demonstrated the importance of effective coordination between government and security agencies in protecting lives and property.
According to him, every rescued victim represents a victory not only for the individual and family involved but also for the wider Nigerian society.
NAPS urged Governor Ododo to sustain the momentum by strengthening collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders.
The association said continued cooperation would be crucial to flushing out criminal elements and preventing kidnappers from establishing new operational bases in the state.
NAPS also commended the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr Tosin Ajayi, over the reported decision to suspend court proceedings against African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential Candidate, Mr Omoyele Sowore, until after the 2027 general elections.
The association described the decision as a demonstration of maturity, professionalism and respect for democratic values.
It said allowing political actors to participate in the democratic process without intimidation would boost public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
However, NAPS urged Sowore and other political actors to embrace issue-based politics, voter education and clear policy alternatives rather than personal attacks and unnecessary confrontations.
The association maintained that constructive criticism remains essential to democracy but warned against insults and provocations targeted at security officials.

NAPS called on all political actors to focus on policies and solutions as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
It urged security agencies to remain professional and apolitical, the judiciary to interpret the law without interference, and Nigerians to be allowed to freely elect their leaders.
