Since assuming office on November 6, 2024, the Executive Chairman of Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya, has made security and peaceful coexistence major priorities of his administration.
The Chairman began his tenure with a promise to unite the people of the local government and address longstanding communal tensions that had affected some communities in the area.
His administration has subsequently introduced and supported a number of security initiatives covering Toto, Gadabuke and Umaisha districts.
The administration facilitated the construction of a police station in Gadabuke Town as part of efforts to strengthen the presence of security institutions in the district.
Operational vehicles were also provided for the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Gadabuke, while similar support was extended to Umaisha.
The police division in Toto Town also received operational support under the administration.
Beyond vehicles, the council administration donated 10 motorcycles to strengthen security operations and improve mobility for personnel operating in different parts of the local government.
Another major project is the construction and furnishing of a Military Super Camp at Katakpa in Umaisha District.
The security-focused approach, according to stakeholders, has helped create a more conducive environment for residents and economic activities.
One of the significant developments associated with improved security has been the return of Bassa residents and other displaced persons to their communities after years away.
The return was facilitated through collaboration between the local government and the state and federal governments.
The administration’s peacebuilding efforts have also received commendation from community members and traditional rulers.
Mr. John Ughulu, while commenting on the security situation, said Toto and its environs were experiencing relative peace.

He commended the council chairman and urged him to sustain the initiatives.
Traditional rulers and other stakeholders also praised Baba Yahaya’s approach to security and community development, describing his efforts as an indication of foresight.
They expressed optimism that sustained peace would create greater opportunities for development across the three districts.
