The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has announced plans to debate the State Police Bill transmitted to the legislature by the National Assembly.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, PhD, disclosed this while reading a letter from the Clerk of the National Assembly during plenary in Lafia on Tuesday.
Jatau said the House would schedule a date for the consideration and debate of the proposed legislation, assuring that the bill would receive the necessary legislative attention.
“We will slate a date for us to debate on the bill soon,” the Speaker said.
According to the Speaker, the letter transmitting the bill to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly was received from the Clerk of the National Assembly on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The proposed State Police Bill is part of broader efforts at the national level to deepen security coordination and explore the establishment of state-controlled police structures within Nigeria’s federal system.
Assembly Approves Five Additional Special Advisers for Sule
In a related development, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has approved Governor Abdullahi Sule’s request to appoint five additional Special Advisers, bringing the total number of Special Advisers in the state to 25.
The approval followed the presentation of Governor Sule’s letter to the House by Speaker Jatau during plenary.
In the letter, the Governor said the additional appointees would be individuals with proven integrity and relevant experience who could contribute positively to the implementation of his administration’s policies and programmes.
Following the presentation of the request, the Majority Leader, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, moved a motion seeking the House’s approval.
The motion was seconded by the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Jonah Ali Dizaho.
The House subsequently approved the appointment of the five additional Special Advisers unanimously.
Assembly Receives Request to Suspend Education Trust Fund Bill
Meanwhile, the House also received another communication from Governor Abdullahi Sule requesting that consideration of a private member’s bill seeking to amend the law establishing the Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund be put on hold.
The request was formally communicated to the House during the plenary.
The development is expected to guide the Assembly’s further consideration of the proposed amendment to the law establishing the state’s Education Trust Fund.
