YAN Constitutes National Convention Planning Committee, Launches Nationwide Electioneering Process

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) has inaugurated an 11-member National Convention Planning Committee and directed the immediate commencement of electioneering activities across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, ahead of the Assembly’s National Convention.
The decision, announced in a press statement issued on July 19, 2026, is in accordance with Article 4, Subsection 8 of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria Constitution (2024 as amended).
According to the Board, the move is aimed at ensuring a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention that reflects the democratic aspirations of Nigerian youths.
The Board reiterated that it remains the highest decision-making organ of the Assembly and has established a broad-based committee representing Nigeria’s six geo-political zones to coordinate preparations for the convention.
National Convention Planning Committee Members
The Board named the following members to serve on the committee:

Committee’s Terms of Reference
The committee has been assigned key responsibilities, including proposing the convention’s theme, date, venue, and structure, preparing a comprehensive budget, coordinating logistics and protocol, mobilising delegates nationwide, documenting proceedings, liaising with stakeholders, supervising sub-committees, ensuring compliance with the YAN Constitution and Electoral Guidelines, and submitting periodic progress reports to the Board of Trustees.
Board Orders Immediate State Electioneering
As part of preparations for the National Convention, the Board also directed the National Deputy Speaker, in consultation with the National Speaker, to immediately constitute Returning Officers for all 36 states and the FCT.
The Returning Officers will oversee and supervise state-level electioneering processes in line with the Youth Assembly of Nigeria Constitution and Electoral Guidelines before the National Convention.
The Board urged members of the National Convention Planning Committee, the National Deputy Speaker, State Chapters, stakeholders, and development partners to work together with transparency, diligence, and unity to deliver a credible convention that reflects the aspirations of young Nigerians.
It also called on all YAN members nationwide to cooperate fully with the committee and the appointed Returning Officers to ensure a successful and democratic electoral process.
