The Directorate of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has extended its humanitarian outreach to patients at the General Hospital, Calabar, Cross River State, offering financial assistance, encouragement and emotional support to women and children receiving medical care.

The outreach, led by the Directorate’s Co-Director, Dr Betta Edu, was organised ahead of the APC presidential campaign rally scheduled to hold in Calabar on Monday.

The initiative followed a directive by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who urged members of the Women Mobilisation Directorate to visit hospitals and extend compassion and practical assistance to vulnerable women and children.

During the visit, Dr Edu and her team toured the maternity, postnatal, accident and emergency, and children’s wards, where they interacted with patients and their families.

Edu explained that the exercise was intended to demonstrate the humanitarian dimension of the Renewed Hope Agenda beyond political mobilisation.

According to her, the delegation encountered patients with different medical challenges, including women awaiting surgery, those recovering from medical procedures and families requiring financial assistance.

She said the team offered support, encouragement and prayers for successful medical procedures and speedy recovery.

Dr Edu also highlighted healthcare interventions under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, including free maternal healthcare in selected hospitals, subsidised dialysis services and eye-care interventions under the Jigi Bola initiative, which includes the distribution of corrective glasses.

She said the interventions were designed to improve access to healthcare, ease the financial burden on families and reduce maternal and infant mortality.

The APC PCC official stressed that women deserved access to quality healthcare and adequate support throughout pregnancy and childbirth.

She also expressed optimism about the expected participation of Cross River residents in Monday’s presidential campaign rally, noting that grassroots engagement remained an important component of the Directorate’s activities.

Responding, the Hospital Administrator of General Hospital, Calabar, Mrs Bassey Effiong, appreciated Dr Edu, the First Lady and the Cross River State Government for their interventions in the healthcare sector.

Effiong described the visit as a demonstration of concern for patients and healthcare workers, while acknowledging efforts to improve healthcare delivery and strengthen the state’s medical workforce through the planned recruitment of additional doctors and nurses.
