The Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday, held its first edition of the chairmanship football competition in the area.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the football competition, which held at Government Junior Secondary School (GJSS) Kekeshi football pitch in the area, the council chairman, Hon Abdulrahman Ajiya, charged the committee to ensure the competition was devoid of any rancour.

He said the council decided to organize the football competition in order to bring the youth across the ten wards of the council together to foster peace and unity among them.
He noted that since football is among sport activities that develop both mental, physical and psychological status of every human being, it became imperative to engage the youth through participating in sporting activities in order for them to live healthy and smart.

According to him, it was part of his administration desire to give priority in developing the sport sector of the council, which he said prompted the council to organize the chairmanship football competition in order to enable the youth to participate in the competition.
The chairman, therefore, appreciated the sport department of the council and members of the football match competition committee for putting heads in coordinating the competition.
Global Times Nigeria learnt that, 25 football clubs across the ten wards of the council registered for the competition, which commenced with the Amicable football club and Mega Star football club participated in the competition leading to 1-1 during first half of the 90 minutes play.
