Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engineer Mohammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu has described as false the allegation leveled against him that he was being declared wanted by security agencies for alleged possession of firearms, a development he said came from unrecognised sources that has no link with security agencies.
The commissioner stated this in a telephone interview with Global Times Nigeria correspondent (Yahaya Idris), on Thursday, 19 October, 2023, a day after the All Progressive Congress (APC), stakeholders, supporters met at Paparanda Square Lokoja, described the rumour as an antics of failed politicians in opposition trying to dent his hard earned personality and records.
The Kogi LG born political leader frowned on the way and manner some citizens had been spreading fake news misinformation against present All Progressives Congress, APC led administration under the pragmatic Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.
There had been reports on the Social Media that the Commissioner and some Governor Bello’s appointees were on the run after being declared wanted by the security agencies over alleged possession of firearms.
Mr. Gegu while debunking the rumour said no security invitation was extended to him over alleged involvement in possession of firearms.
The Commissioner noted with disgust that the situation was laughable as it emanates from unrecognised source that cannot be linked to security agencies.
According to him, the opposition are cluelessness on issues based campaign, adding that character assassination would not stop the ruling All Progressive Congress to emerge victorious in the November election.
Engineer Gegu promised to initiate legal actions against the perpetrators of fake news at the appropriate time, emphasizing that his main focus for now is to make sure the party wins.
” I have all my evidences for now, I don’t want any distraction. My major priority now is to see how Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo will be declared a winner come November 11. That is why we are moving round the units and wards. I have not gone out of my base. From unit (001) near borehole in Gegu South, across the eleven units in my ward and across Kogi Local Government Area and by extension, two hundred and seventy three units in Lokoja Local Government Area. The task alone for me is enough”. He said.
To the mammoths Supporters of the party in Lokoja, the Commissioner urged them to remain committed to the ideology of the party and shun actions that can degenerate into violence during the campaign.
He assured that the party will definitely win the election.
