APC NEC Members, Zonal Women Leaders Asks Embattled National Women Leader, Betta Edu to resign

The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is far from over as elected female National Executive Committee (NEC) members and all Zonal Women Leaders from the six geopolitical zones have called for the immediate resignation of the party’s National Women Leader, Dr Betta Edu.

While addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the women unanimously demanded for her resignation following the recent resignations of the National Chairman and Secretary of the party. The women leaders stated that Edu is also guilty of the crime that forced the resignations of the two senior party officials.

They added that there is no difference between Sen. Abdullahi Adamu’s offences and Betta Edu’s handling of the women wing

“The APC women wing presently lacked transparency and accountability and many actions negates democratic norms and always in flagrant abuse of party structure and violation of the Party’s constitution which is detrimental to our party’s unity and cohesion” They said.
According to them, the party has a structure for the Women’s wing, which flows from the Woman leader to the Deputy Woman leader and to the Zonal Woman leaders, which Beta has consistently violated since her emergence.

The women demanded that Betta Edu should follow suit by submitting her resignation letter to give room for proper revamping of the Women’s wing of the party, which they said is in a state of comatose now, courtesy of her undemocratic leadership style in violation of the party’s constitutional provisions.

They also said her deliberate attempt to sideline the National and Zonal Women Leaders from the visit to the President was based on her premeditated attempt to kill the structure of the party with her leadership style of divide and rule.

The women had earlier in a letter to President Tinubu, passed a vote of no confidence on Betta Edu accusing her of replacing them with fake women officials and implored the President to redress the anomaly and grant them audience

The demand for Edu’s resignation has been met with mixed reactions from party members and supporters. Some have welcomed the move, while others have criticized it. However, the women leaders remain adamant that Edu must resign in order to restore integrity to the party.

The party is yet to issue an official statement on the matter, but it is clear that the APC is in a state of disarray, and the ramifications of the crisis will be felt in the coming days.
