APC Suspends Gwagwalada Council Chairman Over Alleged Anti-party Activities.
By Sadiq Abubakar, Abuja.
The Gwagwalada Area Council chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended the incumbent chairman of the council, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, over alleged anti-party activities in the area.
The suspension of the council chairman, which was contained in a letter was both signed by Dobi ward chairman of APC, Jibrin Gado and secretary, Aliyu Jibrin, respectively and copied to the local government, state APC, North Central as well as national secretary of the party.
A copy of the suspension letter which was obtained by our reporter said the suspension of the council chairman was done upon receiving a petition from one Malam Umaru Dobi, who accused the chairman of alleged anti-party as well flaunting the party rules with Impunity.
They noted that the alleged anti-party activities by the council chairman were in contravention of article 21a (I, ii viii) which they said was submitted to the party on 10th January 2022.
“And upon receipt of the petition, the party executives set up a committee that investigated the allegations and found you culpable and hereby suspends you based on the provision of article 21b (i-iv).
The letter added, “Given the above, we hereby suspend your membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and call upon the responsible organs of our great party as the constitution of the party specifies,”.
The council chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, while reacting to his suspension, said in any normal civilized and APC constitution, he ought to have been informed of his offence.
He said he expected that if there was any petition against him, his attention should be drawn to it for him to respond to such allegations, adding there was no panel or committee set up to verify the allegations.
According to him, the committee also did not make their findings/ recommendations known to him and as well invited him for an explanation.
“But I wholeheartedly accept my suspension even though it’s an affront to democracy, the rule of law and fairness. And as a true loyalist of APC, I will continue to appreciate the exemplary leadership styles of both FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello and state minister, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu,” he said.
Our correspondent report that the incumbent vice-chairman of the council, Hon Muhammad Kassim Ikwa, has defected from APC to PDP where he emerged as chairmanship candidate for the February 12, chairmanship election in the area.
