Arrears: Kuje council chair sets up committee to screen teachers.

Following the ongoing strike by the primary school teachers of the Local Education Authority (LEA) in Kuje area council of FCT over non payment of their arrears, the chairman of the council, Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo, has inaugurated 11 members committee to conduct screening of teachers employed in 2018 in the area.

Sabo, while inaugurating the committee at the councils conference hall on Tuesday, said the committee has the council chief of staff, Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo as chairman while the head of administration and head of department of the LEA are to serve as committee secretary and assistant secretary respectively.

He added that the composition of membership of the committee also cut across various organizations, which he included representatives of area council, FCT UBEB, FCT NUT wing, Rubochi and Kuje branches h of the NUT as well as AOPSHON and representatives of LEA.

According to him, the setting up of the screening committee was in line with the resolution of the stakeholders meeting with the state executives of the FCT NUT in addressing regular unwarranted industrial action by the primary school teachers in the area.

“And as you are all aware, the purpose of this committee is to right the wrong. Therefore, God will not forgive us if we fail to do the right thing”, he said.

The chairman, however, said that the comittee terms of reference are to ensure candidates fill the verification form, candidates must appear in person and among others, even as he said the committee is given three weeks to submit their report.

He disclosed that the council will soon release the sum of N60 million for payments of teachers arrears.

Speaking on behalf of the committee members, the coucncil chief of staff, Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo, appreciated the chairman for finding them for the assignment.

He assured that the committee will seat down to carry out their assignment deligently without any compromise.
