The NUF made its position known in a statement by its national youth leader, Mazi Akachukwu Nnaemeka, and forwarded to the Media houses on Thursday, against the backdrops of the recent declaration of interest by the national leader of the All Progressive Congress, APC, and former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to vie for the seat of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023 election.

Our correspondent recalls that the ex-Lagos governor had made his intention known during his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Continuing, NUF pointed out that Tinubu will take a place in history as a true statesman should he also jettison his presidential ambition and support an Igbo man from the southeast zone to succeed President Buhari, maintaining that Nigeria will restore its lost dignity and as well as overcome the myriads of problems bedeviling her under an Igbo as President of the most populous nation in Africa.

The group further insisted that the Igbo nation can diversify and stabilize the nation’s dwindling economy, fix the Infrastructural deficits, and as well as end the worsening insecurity necessitated by nefarious attacks by Boko Haram terrorists, killer herdsmen, bandits, and kidnappers in some parts of the country.

According to the NUF, “we have been relegated to the background in this country as if ndigbo are not part of Nigeria. The people of southeast Igbo extraction will never accept vice-presidential positions or slots from any political parties. It will be in our overall interest of the country, and also for the sale of justice, fairness and equity that power should shift to the southeast geopolitical zone”.

The Ndigbo United Forum also reiterated its earlier call on President Muhammadu Buhari to adopt a political solution towards addressing the myriads of ethnic agitations for succession by groups across the country to douse the tension in the polity.
