Christmas: FCT Police Commissioner Bans Sales, Use Fireworks

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner, CP Babaji Sunday, psc has banned the use of fireworks ahead of the Christmas celebration and new year celebrations across the territory.

CP Sunday, who stated this while addressing newsmen at the command headquarters in Abuja, sales, also banned the sales of all kinds of fire-crackers, knockouts in the FCT.

He said the order is part of a proactive move by the police to sustain the relative peace in the FCT and to adequately contain crimes and criminality, particularly ones peculiar to the end of the year and the Christmas and new year festivities.

He said aside from constituting nuisance and disturbance of public peace caused by the use of fireworks, it is also capable of causing unnecessary fear and apprehension and other dangers associated with its usage in the harmattan period.

“Because the use of fireworks is in addition to the possibility of providing an escape space for criminals after the commission of a crime,” he said.

The CP has also ordered all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and heads of police units within the FCT to carry out due enforcement of the ban to ensure that anyone who violates the order is arrested and brought to book.

He, therefore, called on parents and guardians to impress on their children and wards to desist from the sales and use of fireworks, firecrackers, knockouts across the FCT.
